May 8 - "Meet the Natives"
John Mayronne, Landscape Architect, has extensive design experience using natives - and is a retired
natives nurseryman. John will introduce us to native South Louisiana plants, how they are best used in your
garden, and why we should use natives. Native plants will be sold, along with many other companion plants
for your garden. Citrus trees available.
June 12 - "New Orleans Garden Favorites"
Recently retired Dept. of Parks and Parkways Landscape Architect Keith Bleichner will share some of his
favorite garden plants including a few old New Orleans heirlooms which have been passed from neighbor to
neighbor over the years, exquisitely fragrant plants, butterfly and hummingbird magnets and "semi" tropicals
which survived the great freeze of the winter of 2009/2010. The sale will feature roses, butterfly plants, heat
tolerant plants, natural pest deterrents, beneficial insects such as ladybugs and praying mantis, and lots of
tropicals.
July 10 - "Water Features"
Create a shady oasis in your own back yard, learn to make your own water features, learn to install a
micro-irrigation system. Heat tolerant plants and tropicals available. Running water creates a soothing and
refreshing audio and visual for your backyard oasis. Dennis Weese will demonstrate how to create your
own water feature, using easy to find tools and materials. Tropicals, semi-tropicals, sun lovers and shade
seeking plants will be available.
August 14 - "Pet Friendlies"
Back by Popular Demand! Plant pet friendly plants in your pet's backyard paradise.
Free Dog Wash for members, $10 for non-members. Heat tolerant plants and tropicals available.
September 11 - "Back to School for your Vegetable Garden"
Are you ready for a bountiful Fall Harvest? Learn what it takes to get the most out of your garden from Philip
Soulet, community gardener and visit Bienville, the garden on Clio to see it in action. Vegetable and herb
starts, fruit trees and vines, fall annuals, and special seeds for sale.
October 9 - "Cottage Gardens"
Landscape Contractor and Master Gardener Tammany Baumgarten will present how to get your colorFull
spring cottage garden started - using seeds and using plants. It's tree planting season again! Plenty of
citrus, hardwood, and flowering trees for sale, along with shrubs, perennials and fall color bedding annuals.
Bogalusa Long Leaf Pine Straw to mulch up for winter. Free seeds and saplings.
