Thanks to all of our Sow & Grow Schoolyard Garden educators for their accomplishments in the garden as well as in the classroom. Here are some updates about these great folks and what they’ve been up to:

Marguerite Green of NOCCA’s Press Street Gardens continues moving forward with planning the school’s garden that will support the school’s Culinary Arts Program. Ground will be broken this fall and will include vegetable beds and edible trees. Margee is a professional horticulturalist.

Kelly Woodson of Lusher enjoyed her first year ever in a garden. Lusher’s grounds have been under construction this year, so she partnered with the Master Gardeners of Greater New Orleans and an urban farmer at the Arc Garden, just two blocks behind her campus. She incorporated the garden into her AP Environmental Science curriculum.

Amy Zellwegger of Langston Hughes‘ schoolyard garden, also p

artnered with Edible Schoolyard, continues to shine as one of the city’s most active and successful garden educators. She works tirelessly as a teacher and garden educator, and her hard work is evident in the beautiful campus garden she manages.

Constance Fowler of KIPP McDonogh 15 has ushered an incredible transformation of her school’s garden. She uses the garden to teach life skills and will be brought on next year as a staff member. Constance also volunteered at Lusher’s garden, teaching them gardening techniques she learned while in the Peace Corps in Nicaragua.

Sarah Kington and Jamie Broussard of Andrew Wilson Charter have done a beautiful job expanding their campus garden for the last two years as Delta Corps employees. They work with numerous classes, incorporating the garden into curriculum. Their garden truly serves as an outdoor classroom.

Thea Lee of KIPP Central City Academy has done a tremendous amount of work on her campus’ garden. In just one year she has transformed the garden’s landscape by building eight raised beds and installing an orchard. She has also built a strong community around the garden, and many students are excited about gardening next year.
